Grammar Mastery
(Teens and Adults)
(Teens and Adults)
A structured English grammar course built around differentiated instruction and skills-based learning, developing learners' understanding and accuracy through meaningful practice, real-world contexts and carefully selected materials.
Grammar requirements change with age, level and purpose.
At primary level, the focus is on building a secure foundation and helping children use correct structures as their English develops. Teaching follows the child's age and stage of schooling, with an emphasis on understanding basic patterns and using them accurately.
Lower secondary students need increasingly complex grammar for school, written work and further study. We strengthen areas where a student's grammar is less secure and develop the accuracy needed for increasingly demanding schoolwork.
Upper secondary students often need a more systematic and precise grasp of grammar. Grammar Mastery supports preparation for demanding academic work, examinations and university study.
Adult learners come to grammar for different reasons: strengthening general English, addressing specific weaknesses, preparing for further study, improving professional English or working towards an examination. We tailor the course to their existing knowledge and goals, whether they need targeted support or a broader programme.
Learners within the same age group can have very different requirements. Some need to strengthen particular areas, while others need a broader programme. We set the starting point and focus for each learner accordingly.
Grammar is taught through a combination of explanation, guided practice and active use.
Typical activities include:
analysing examples to identify how a structure works
completing controlled exercises to establish accuracy
correcting and explaining grammatical errors
transforming sentences using different structures
comparing similar grammatical forms and their meanings
applying new structures in speaking and writing
using grammar in practical and topic-based contexts
Learners often have different levels of knowledge across different areas of grammar. Teaching and practice are adjusted to individual strengths, needs and goals, with additional attention given to areas requiring further development.
Progress is monitored through classroom activities, written work, practical tasks and regular feedback.

Think English Club recognises that there are many ways to define, develop and combine skills. For Grammar Mastery, we focus on five core strands that reflect what accurate, flexible grammar use actually requires.
We aim to nurture these skills naturally, helping learners become confident, accurate English users who can draw on all five strands together, applying them appropriately as each situation demands.
Accuracy
How can I use grammar correctly?
Using grammatical structures correctly and consistently in speaking and writing, with a secure grasp of tense, agreement, word order and word forms.
Range
How can I use a wider variety of structures?
Moving beyond a narrow set of familiar structures to use a wider variety of grammatical forms, appropriate to the learner's level.
Precision
How can I express meaning exactly?
Choosing the right structure to express a specific meaning — distinguishing, for example, between similar tenses, modals or conditionals that shift meaning in subtle ways.
Self-Correction
How can I notice and fix my own mistakes?
Noticing and correcting one's own grammatical errors, both in the moment and when reviewing written work.
Application
How can I use grammar naturally in real situations?
Transferring grammar knowledge from controlled exercises into real, spontaneous speaking and writing, so accuracy holds up outside of practice tasks.
Learners may have strong knowledge in some areas of grammar and gaps in others. We adapt the focus and amount of practice according to the learner's level, existing knowledge, needs and goals.
Learners practise using grammatical structures in sentences, spoken interaction and written work, with increasing attention to accuracy and appropriate usage.
We use carefully selected grammar textbooks, workbooks and reference materials from established publishers. These materials provide structured explanations, graded practice and examples of English in use.
As an independent Club with no ties to any publishing house, we're free to evaluate materials purely on their educational merit and choose what best suits each learner's age, level and goals. Every textbook used at the Club is carefully reviewed by Tutor Martin before it's introduced to students. At the same time, we welcome titles that bring fresh, innovative approaches and offer genuine value in supporting teaching and learning.
We use textbooks from Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Macmillan Education and National Geographic Learning.
Grammar Mastery is suitable for learners from primary age (6+) through secondary school to adults.
The course can support:
general English development
school and academic study
professional communication
examination preparation
targeted development of grammatical accuracy
